Volksrepublik - 20 Yuan 1989. Dragon and Phoenix (2 oz). 62.27 g. Polierte Platte / Proof.

The coins with the date 1989, in diverse weights and metals minted privately on behalf of the Shenyang Mint, were almost unsaleable after the events of June 1989 on the Chinese Tiananmen Square. Of the 2538 gold and 7328 silver coins, each at 2 ounces, originally minted, all excepting a very few specimen copies, were melted. The dies were recut to 1990 and the originally agreed upon mintage - now with the year 1990 - was then produced.
