Catherine II, 1762-1796. Pewter medal 1762 with copper layer. For social engagement. Dies by T. Ivanov. Bust of Catherine II to r. Rev. 4 line legend in baroque frame. 41,66 g. Diakov 116.1. Smirn. 245. About extremely fine-extremely fine.
Diakov notes that some publications claim this medal was an award to merchants who organized a trade expedition from Kamchatka to the Aleutian Islands (Alaska) in 1758 during which the Fox Islands were discovered.
