Maria Luigia war Marie Louise, Tochter des Kaisers Franz II. Und Gattin Napoleons I. Obwohl sie Napoleon verabscheute beugte sie sich der Staatsräson und heiratete ihn am 1. April 1810 im Louvre Palast. Nach Napoleons Niederlage erhielt sie vom Wiener Kongress die Herzogtümer Parma und Piacenza, sowie Guastalla. Sie liierte sich mit dem Grafen von Neippberg, von dem sie mehrere Kinder gebar. Offiziell blieb sie mit Napoleon bis zu seinem Tod verheiratet. 1821 schloss sie eine morganatische Ehe mit dem Grafen und ihre Kinder wurden Fürsten von Montenuovo - ein numismatisch bekannter Name. 1834 schloss sie eine dritte Ehe mit dem Grafen von Bombelles, ein Minister am Hofe in Parma. Von jetzt an bis zu ihrem Tod war sie bekannt als fürsorgliche Landesmutter.

Maria Luigia was Marie Louise, daughter of Emperor Franz II. And wife of Napoleon I. Despite loathing Napoleon she acquiesced for reasons of state and married him on 1. April 1810 in the Louvre Palace. After Napoleon’s defeat, she received the Duchies of Parma and Piacenza as well as Guastalla from the Congress of Vienna. She entered into a relationship with Count von Neippberg, whom she bore several children. Officially she remained married to Napoleon until his death. In 1821 she entered into a morganatic marriage with the count and her children became Princes of Montenuovo – a numismatically well-known name. In 1834 she married the Count of Bombelles, a minister at her court in Parma. From then on until her death she became a caring mother of the nation.
